The utility will notify you if the scan finds any errors or not. To repair errors without scanning for bad sectors, select the 'Automatically fix file system errors' box and to repair errors and scan for bad sectors, select the 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' box. The program works with hard drives (including SCSI and RAID) and removable media - it also works on CDs. From there click 'Tools' and select 'Check' under the 'Error checking' section. CheckDisk is capable of finding bad sectors on your disk and marking them as such. To run Chkdsk from within Windows, but without Command Prompt, you need to go to on 'This PC', right-click on the hard disk you'd like to run the utility on and then click 'properties'. As with the previous command, the volume is the letter of the drive you'd like to repair. Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter. Restart your system and let the check disk run. ( If prompted for a password, type the password and click allow) Type the following command: chkdsk /r and click Enter. Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option. Press Windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin) to open the Elevated Command Prompt. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings. Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter: a. To repair errors and scan for bad sectors, type 'chkdsk 'volume': /r' and press enter. Method 1: Run the Hardware troubleshooter and check. To repair errors without scanning for any bad sectors, type 'chkdsk volume :/r' and press enter, where 'volume' is the letter of the drive you'd like to scan, whether it's C or D, or otherwise. Step four: Things begin to get a little more technical here, but you'll need to type 'chkdsk' followed by a specific command to repair any errors you may encounter.
